Welcome ToISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness)

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), otherwise known as the Hare Krishna movement, includes five hundred major centres, temples and rural communities, nearly one hundred affiliated vegetarian restaurants, thousands of namahattasor local meeting groups, a wide variety of community projects, and millions of congregational members worldwide. Fifty years on the global stage, ISKCON has expanded widely since its founding by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda in New York City in 1966.

ISKCON belongs to the Gaudiya-Vaishnavasampradāya, a monotheistic tradition within the Vedic or Hindu culture. Philosophically it is based on the Sanskrit texts Bhagavad-gītā and the Bhagavata Purana, or Srimad Bhagavatam. These are the historic texts of the devotional bhakti yoga tradition, which teaches that the ultimate goal for all living beings is to reawaken their love for God, or Lord Krishna, the “all-attractive one”.

ISKCON Scotland

ISKCON Scotland is the Scottish branch of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) also known as the Hare Krishna Movement. ISKCON was established in the west in 1966. It has its roots in India from a very respected ancient spiritual Vaishnava tradition also known as Bhakti Yoga. ISKCON today is a worldwide confederation of more than 400 centres, including 60 farm communities, 50 schools and 90 very much loved restaurants. The Scottish branch of ISKCON was registered as a charity in 1989. Since our launch we have been working hard to promote various causes. Although we feel we are already making a significant impact, there is always more that can be done to help those in need. Spiritual Causes to be mentioned like promoting Prasad, Harinam and Book Distribution. Basis of our Causes and what are they – To look at 7 purposes of Iskcon
